How Nelson came to be the Utopia Percherons Mascot : Christmas 1998
It was two days before Christmas, the day that Brian snuck Nelson into the barn without Stacie's knowing it. Brian doesn't like to keep a secret so to not spoil the surprise was a challenge.
On Christmas morning Brian had BIG plans. He asked Stacie to go do chores with him. Well, Stacie didn't think that was such a great idea. It was cold and snowy outside and she thought Brian should go feed the one horse that was in the barn by himself. Brian and his mother pleaded with Stacie to go to the barn also. Finally, Stacie gave in. She went to the barn with Brian following behind. When she got to the barn she heard a faint little whinny. She knew immediately that it wasn't a draft horse whinny. She slid open the barn door and she peered over the stall wall. To her surprise she sees a little, black, frightened miniature horse. He was just what Stacie always dreamed of owning one day.
Brian led the miniature horse from the stall. It was love at first sight. Brian said to Stacie "Why don't you get Nelson some carrots from the grain bin." Stacie said "Sure", she turned walked over to the grain bin and opened it. There it was, the carrots sitting next to a box wrapped beautifully in silver wrapping paper. Stacie knew immediately, Brian was proposing!
And that is how Nelson came to be the Utopia Percherons mascot.
